Calling All Future Newsletter Superstars From Europe (Especially Germany)
Substack shipped three new features. Plus, you can now join the German-speaking space inside "Substack School".
It all started with this milestone post on Notes from
.With her 52-week streak, she now belongs to the top 5% of publishers on Substack.
I thought:
“Time to celebrate and share this with others!”
So I re-stacked her post with a note in English as well as in German, because Katja and I are from Germany and not native speakers.
Did you know most Substack writers quit after 16 weeks?
In my opinion, it’s super sad that writers aren’t patient enough to…
hear crickets
don’t feel seen and read
feel alone and lost
experience a subscriber or follower plateau
Katja tagged me because of my popular story “Write a Newsletter 52 Weeks in a Row and Watch it Change Your Life”.
“It’s all about taking one step at a time and continuing to move forward,” Katja has learned.
Especially as a non-native writer, Substack isn’t an easy place to be seen and make money writing online.
I've been writing on the internet in my second language for about 3.5 years and still often feel that I can't express myself as creatively, wittily, innovatively and accurately as I'd like.
This week we had a live event with a 6-figure solopreneur
from Bulgaria. My and Maya's English is at C2 level, but when real natives with my membership experience speak in the Q&A session, it's wonderful.
I LOVE English and my goal was to improve my English with every story I pump out.
Also, the opportunity to speak in English opened new doors for me.
I interviewed Medium top writer Zulie Rane, and Medium Product Manager and Boost Coordinator Ariel Meadow Stallings.
For non-natives confidence is key
Besides consistency + valuable quality writing for non-English speaking writers gaining CONFIDENCE is key.
consistency + valuable quality writing + confidence
So based on my conversations with
from Substack’s network as well as Martina Maiani and I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll open a space inside my Online Writing School for German-speaking writers. If you’re a German-speaking writer, all you have to do is to…
leave a comment
subscribe to my newsletter, so I can send you an invite
(If you want to support me and my work as well as invest in your writing, you can also join the international community experience where we’re talking in English with the Substack School and Medium School and GROW community which are included in the paid subscription of my newsletter. The German-speaking space will be part of it.)
The key takeaways from my conversations with German-speaking writers on Substack are:
We’d love to…
connect
have fun
collaborate with others
see more posts in German in our feed
share our work with others and get feedback
stay up to date on all relevant updates and new features that are relevant for Germany and Europe
exchange best practices with other German-speaking writers
improve our headlines and writing
virtually meet other Germans
meet IRL
If you say:
“Ja, Kristina, das ist genau das was ich möchte!”
Hit reply, leave a comment, and let me know.
If you’ve other German-speaking Substack friends you’d like to invite, do so.
I’ve got more good news for you
Although I primarily cover updates for international writers, in this week’s video (which was in my spring cleaning drafts folder for too long 😂), I cover exciting changes and updates for European and German writers.
No worries, these changes are also relevant for international writers who often don’t know about these new payment options.
New Video: New Payment Options for European and International Writers
Here are the three new growth features I find interesting as a writer from Europe and Germany:
Firstly, writers who are not native speakers and write in another language can set a default language for their Substack publication, for example, German.
Second, your readers can now pay for a subscription in their local currency (multi-currency pricing).
Third, subscribers can use four alternative payment methods (APMs) if they’re located in Europe.
✅Engagement BONUS: I love to gamify your newsletter experience, so if you leave a comment on YouTube (in English and/or German), you could win a 15-minute coaching session with me in May 2024.
