From Zero to 3,600 Subscribers
Why Substack is perfect for beginners who want to kickstart and naturally grow their email list.
I love Substack.
It feels like home.
I recommend it whenever I can. On all platforms.
Medium, X, YouTube.
Plus, I recommend it to all of my creator friends and followers.
Though, that’s what I often hear:
“I’ve been thinking about”
“I’ll hold off on making one until…”
or
“I’ve been looking into Substack…”
I bet this is relatable.
Maybe you’re reading this and thinking exactly this.
Or you know someone who wants to start a newsletter in 2024 and is on the fence about joining Substack.
My advice as an online marketing expert with more than 13 years of experience and part-time mompreneur is to tab over to the site and just start.
Like, today.
Let me explain.
Substack is buzzing
I’ve started my Substack journey 13 months ago.
Here are my current numbers.
A little more than 3,600 free subscribers are on my list.
Two weeks ago, I activated the pay button and now have 36 paying subscribers.
My newsletter costs $9 a month or $70 a year to be a paid subscriber and get my premium content (exclusive videos, Q&A sessions, invite to the Substack School & GROW community experience. Plus, we can connect on a personal level and I can serve you better).
This means my personal Substack already makes about $3,200 (as of today, I have more than 40 paid subscribers) in annual recurring revenue (ARR).
Besides monetizing my words, here’s what I love about Substack.
With Substack, anyone can start a publication that combines a personal website, blog, and email newsletter.
And more: You can also add a podcast and video.
Yep, you heard that right!
All this in one place.
On one platform.
For me, Substack is a publishing platform for writers that brings together the best from different sites such as…
email service provider ConvertKit
website builder WordPress
social media platforms such as Medium
community platforms such as Skool
Writing on Substack is totally on the house.
You don’t need to pay a monthly or annual fee to get started.
You only pay Substack 10% if you make money through their platform.
You aren’t a renter.
You’re a buyer! You own your email list. If you wanna leave, you can take your email list with you. Anytime. Anywhere.
Someone letting you into their inbox is a way bigger deal than someone just following you on rented land. They want to see what you are sending them.
Followers can be a vanity metric, and you lose them when a social media site closes its doors.
The moral of the story?
You can’t build an email business on rented land.
To save you a lot of *talking* or *thinking*, I’ve created a video for you, your friends, your family, and anyone who might be interested in following their newsletter dreams in 2024.
My new video is called “Why Substack is the BEST Newsletter Platform for Beginners”.
As the title conveys, I explain in 12 minutes WHY Substack is the BEST place to start your email list builder game in 2024 - especially if you start from scratch and are a beginner:
