Medium might be growing but they haven't given enough attention to creating tools for the writers. It doesn't give you that direct relationship with the readers. I have been there, though I haven't given much attention. Medium looks like WordPress as well. Readers just see you like any other noisy hornbill on the Internet. It is hard to reach out to audience. But may be going forward, there will be changes. Let's see
I need someone to compare this medium projection to substack’s potential growth. Numbers don’t lie and I would love to support any platform with kind of contents.
Haha 😅 why not. You could repurpose your content on Medium or write short form. It's definitely a great place to build an audience. That's why I started my Medium and Subatack School with ONE community .
Thank you, Kristina, for the stats and interesting info on Medium. Very insightful. I though the median age would have been older. Great research. Keep your fab content coming!
Hi Jeanine, exactly. I thought the same. It shows that the corner in which we're writing isn't representative. I share more in the video on YT. Next I'll cover Substack again
In other words, is a Medium writer more likely to be on the left, where a few people make a LOT of money, or out on the very long tail where they make little to nothing? More like Jennifer Lawrence, or more like Rod McLachlan?
Medium (or Substack, or Amway, or Mary Kay) like to give anecdotes about the lucky few, so Joe Average can think "I can be like that!"
Answered you in the comments of your post so that more people can discover it. Some great pointers. Would love to learn more about the upper and middle class. Did you see Michelle for instance? Many of my students succeed on the platform and I think it's the best platfork to get paid for blogging. , Albert. You get paid immediately.
Thanks for the shout out! I (apparently) don't write anything Medium really likes, but just got my fourth Boost this month (a personal best) and am looking forward to a very good payout this month. As of yesterday -- before the latest Boost -- my January total was $1,763.01. And I don't write about any of the most popular topics. Today's Boosted piece is about as far from that as you can get: https://medium.com/fourth-wave/more-men-combining-careers-with-fatherhood-e3acdc8ef9a2
Wooohoooo!!! Michelle. I also linked you on YT. If you want to you can send me a screenshot of you total earnings for Jan and I'll include it in a video about upper class, middle class on Medium.
Holy cannoli, four boosts? That’s amazing! I am pretty proud of the two I got this month, which is my personal best so far. Trend is going in the right direction, so I’m happy!
Yeah 〽️ I'm super happy for you!! I'm always looking for boosted stories to add to my Boosted Guide , so you can send me an email with screenshots of you like and I'll include and promote you
Thanks for asking!!! My handle is @smileandwave but name on profile is Holly Pettit. My two boosts in January are:
-- Crossing the River of Oblivion — Do Our Loved Ones Forget Us After They Pass Away?
-- Life Changes Are Coming When a Goddess Claims You
The Life Changes one was the big winner this month -- it's a convoluted love story and who doesn't like those? The other, the River of Oblivion, is a piece about death that one commenter said was oddly "hopeful," which is great on awards night, but still not the box-office smash as the rom-com.
Thank you for the shout out in your video! It is much appreciated.
Great piece there!

What tool do you feel is missing? I feel great connection with my readers on Medium.

Very interesting - I didn't realise there are so many younger readers. I guess tech was a big draw. Thanks, Kristina!
Im going in on Medium again but I feel like most people can’t make up their minds about it. Its either go all in or abandon ship.
I’m little confused. Is Medium better than Substack? Or other way around? 🤔
I'm also on medium, got started with writing on there. I still post, but not as much as i used to.
I think its easy to get more followers on there compared to over here.
Maybe its just me, but a lot of the people are writing about the same topics, just changing it here and there. not much depth as you get over here.
At the end of the day I guess it cant hut to be on both platforms.
Insightful stuff. Makes me wish I had time for Medium...

Excited to read this news Kristina. Hoping India will be supported by Medium very soon. ☕🙏😊😊
As soon as I hear anything I'll share it (plus video)
Thank you dear 👍👍
It would be interesting to see these same analytics done for Substack.
Hi Mary, that's exactly 💯 what I'm working on for next week I 🤔 think. Stay tuned!

I just sent it! Thank you — I always love a shout-out, and I can’t wait to see what makes one the Medium middle class.

What's your name on Medium? Mine is the same.

Boomers: Worked. Gen X: Irked. Millennials: Shirked.
The Difference Between Dated and Retro
I Should Never Have Brought Seymour To Life, Because Now He Has Power Over Me
