Shhh! I've Analyzed 25 Substack User, Revenue and Growth Stats — What You Need to Know to Succeed in 2025
Substack is home to tens of millions of readers and 4M active paid subscribers. 50,000 publishers are earning money and more insights, key facts and stats
I started writing on Substack in fall 2022 with zero subscribers and zero earnings. Fast forward tot today, and wow… I have 11,000 + subscribers and earn about $2,900/month as a solo part-time writing mom thanks to my wonderful subscribers and tribe members. ❤️
So, for Valentine’s Day, I wanted to give back. As a thank you, I spent days analyzing Substack and finally bring this value-packed story full of insights to you —packed with everything you need to know to grow, engage, and thrive on Substack in 2025.
❤️ Also, I’ll meet a Substack employee tomorrow for a chat about Notes. I have 6 spots to join us. We meet on February 14th at 11am ET. Leave a comment and/or share the post to win one of the 6 spots. You can also ask your Notes-related questions. I’ll be asking Substack directly in the LIVE, so let me know what you want me to find out.
(This post is too long for email. I hope you’ll see it in your inbox though! Think it’s a 10min+ read packed with lots of graphs.)
Substack is my home and I’m in good company.
Initially launched in 2017, it has become the go-to place for writers, authors, and creators who want to own their audience and build an engaged email list, sell their books and get paid for being themselves. Whether you’re writing about tech, parenting, finance, or your latest obsession with sourdough bread, Substack welcomes it all. I appreciate this so much!
If you’re publishing on a platform, it just makes sense to actually understand how that platform works, right? Especially when it’s on a mission to "build a new economic engine for culture."
More than seven years after its launch, Substack is more than just a newsletter platform—it’s a subscription-based network built around writing, podcasting, community, and culture-making. Basically, it’s where creators can thrive without having to fight algorithms for attention. And that’s why I love it so much. I guess you too!
In my corporate life, I’m an award-winning marketing and brand manager. So I ran Substack through the wringer using Similarweb, a tool that offers juicy insights on website traffic, audience demographics, and performance. I love this marketing tool. I used it last year to break down Medium’s audience, insights and trends. Now it’s Substack’s turn.
Also, I dug into Google Trends, checked Ahrefs, and combed through insights from..
articles in top-tier media
and Substack’s own newsletter posts
reports for investors, where Substack’s co-founders Chris Best, Hamish McKenzie, and Jairaj Sethi spilled some really interesting insights.
So, let’s cut to the chase and see what’s going on with Substack in 2025 to help you better understand the platform and make informed decisions.
I can’t wait to share this with you.
