The Easiest Way to Make Money with Your Newsletter in 2024 📧
You don’t need any special skills, and you can scale it to the moon. Learn from atomic, minimalist writer Jamie Northrup.
I’ve tried dozens of side hustles, online and offline.
I prefer the online ones by far, especially the minimalist side hustles.
I’ve found the easiest one you can start right now, it’s free, you don’t need any special skills, and you can scale it as much as you want.
I call it the “Evergreen Curated Newsletter” side hustle.
Before I give you an easy breakdown of how to do it, let me explain each part of the name I’ve given this side hustle.
Evergreen in this context means that the information will be valuable and/or valid forever, or at least for a very long time.
Curated means that you aren’t creating any content, although you can add your thoughts if you would like. You are just collecting the content from different sources online.
Newsletter is the format in which you are sharing this evergreen curated content. You’ll need to choose how often the newsletter gets sent out via email, typically it’s once or twice a week.
Here are the 5 steps you need to follow to get your own evergreen curated newsletter up and running, and EARNING!
Choose the niche (5 minutes)
Choose the platform (5 minutes)
Create the landing page (15 minutes)
Write some emails (30 minutes)
Promote your newsletter (ongoing)
Start earning money (5 minutes)
It’s even simpler than it sounds, let’s take a look at each step in more detail.
📧#1 Choose a niche for your evergreen curated newsletter
What do you want your newsletter to be about?
Some popular choices include business, finances, health, fitness, and sports, but you aren’t limited to those, you can choose anything at all.
And when you do choose, make it as specific as possible. For example, instead of choosing “business”, choose something more specific like “online businesses for stay-at-home moms” or “side hustles for retirees”.
You want to know exactly who your target audience will be for the newsletter as that will come in handy when you start promoting it.
🎯#2 Choose the platform you want to use
There are dozens and dozens of platforms available out there, I use ConvertKit which is free to start, but you can also use Gumroad, with a 10% cut.
The key is to choose a platform that will give you a landing page (see step 3) and automation to send out emails automatically whenever someone signs up.
📧#3 Create the landing page for people to signup
It doesn’t matter if you use Gumroad, ConvertKit, or another platform, most all (if not all) let you create your own landing page so that people can sign up to receive your newsletter.
On your landing page, you’ll want to create something simple telling people why they should sign up, and also at what frequency you will be emailing them.
✍🏻#4 Write some emails
It’s not a newsletter if you aren’t sending out emails.
The first email you’ll want to create is a welcome email that they receive moments after signing up for the newsletter.
In the welcome email, you’ll introduce yourself and/or the newsletter, you’ll thank them, and you’ll tell them what to expect going forward.
After that, you’ll want to write a bunch more emails, I would say at least 5–10 to start, and you’ll want to set them to automatically send X amount of days after the previous one. X would be 7 if you decided to make this a weekly newsletter.
If you’ve created 10 emails, that means you have 10 weeks from the date of your first subscriber to add more before the emails stop.
How do you find content to share?
Simple, you can use the search functions on X, Medium, YouTube, Instagram, Google, Substack and anywhere else online to find content to share related to your niche.
Even better, sign up for some newsletters about your niche, and you’ll have content coming to you, just make sure you always reference the person/newsletter that you got it from.
🤗#5 Promote your newsletter to get more subscribers
There are many options to promote your newsletter, both free and paid.
The free options involve promoting it on social media websites, and online groups or message boards.
The paid options involve paying for ads on social media or Google, and the best way I’ve found is through ads in newsletters related to your niche.
It’s important to know how much a subscriber is worth to you before going the paid route, because if the average subscriber earns you $6 and you’re paying $9 to get new ones, well you’re losing money.
I suggest starting with the free options until you can see how much a subscriber is worth, which will change over time.
💵#6 Monetize your newsletter
You can do this from day #1, you don’t need to wait until you have a certain amount of subscribers or emails sent, you can get sponsors for each and every email through affiliate marketing.
I can’t imagine an easier way to make money online.

Fascinating
I have a minimalist newsletter too, thanks to Jamie and Christina.
Though, I don't understand something from your post. What are those 5-10 emails you should send after someone subscribes? I didn't get it. Should they be emails with regular content, like a post, or curated resources?
