What Valentin Bunea Learned Writing Every Day for the Last 10 Years
The habit of writing can change your life.
Thinking about writing every day… is the hardest part. 😁
For health and nutrition expert
the most powerful personal habit is writing every single day. It’s unbelievable but he’s been writing and publishing content for ten years straight.
3650 days.
1040 weekend days.
Not only did he decide to write and create every day, he also decided to lose weight once, and now he's in the best shape of his life.
After our conversation, I have a feeling that his success as a 6-figure author is because he learned from fitness and writing.
Here are 2 of his most inspiring learnings:
1 Reawake your morning brain
Valentin learned that his morning brain is a lot better than his late afternoon or evening brain.
He now rises at 5:00 am to write - a practice he shares with author
which I also interviewed (interview will run in June 2024) on her Penguin Random House Book deal.Valentin shared with me that his energy is better right after he wakes up (and his two kids are stilll asleep 😆, of course), which means his creativity and willpower are both stronger.
He does his best work before sunrise.
During the conversation, I realized that I'm not a night owl either, even though I often (have to) write until after midnight.
I start to work for my side hustle at 7pm after I put my toddler to bed and hopefully also our baby. Or my husband takes her in the baby carrier.
Valentine’s tip for busy parents and/or part-time writers
If you have kids in the house, are writing part-time or have other responsibilies during the day, why not go to bed early or earlier.
Valentin has a 8/9pm bedtime routine.
He learned this when he realized that he felt very exhausted after a long day with the children and thought: Why not go to bed with them?
2 Either they love you or they hate you - there’s no money in the middle
You don’t write for the critics.
What I see in my coaching sessions is that resistance is holding most writer back.
Resistance is nice and fear is a good emotion because it wants to protect us, but we have to buckle up the fear on the passenger seat and do it anyway
Valentin learned the hard way that you can’t please everyone when writing online.
The turning point?
Deciding he “hated living in fear” and taking bold action.
“You know, nutrition is like a religion. (…)
What I noticed over the years was that no matter what I wrote, I couldn’t please all my readers. Never 100%.
If I recommended eating fish daily: “no – it contains heavy metals”.
If I recommended eating 1.2 kilos of vegetables every day: “no – they contain pesticides, and besides, who can eat that many vegetables anyway?”.
If I recommended eating eggs daily: “no – you’ll get hepatitis and heart disease”.
In my interview with Ayodeji Awosika (which will air in June 2024) we both agreed that we want to be writers with a voice, an opinion and an attitude.
Ayo wouldn't have done the interview with me if he hadn't heard and seen me on Medium for years doing the work, doing the reps.
He knew that I was someone who took things seriously. As a father himself, he knows what it feels like to want to create a better future for yourself and your family.
The same goes for Valentin.
He has recognized that there will also be people who disagree. And that's a good thing.
His audience knows what he stands for and that he is not a wishy-washy guy who wants to please everyone.
What you repeat daily you become
Today Valentin is pleased about his writing.
He not only writes on Facebook and Instagram but recently also added Substack.
He started in August 2023 and within a few weeks became a Substack bestseller without importing his existing email list.
He would NEVER reach this awesome success if he wouldn’t have started… well, ten years ago, no matter how “bad” his daily posts were back then.
When he started writing on Substack, where he published 70 posts in a month, he realized that his fear and anxiety around writing was 100% gone - even though he is no more a native speaker than I am.
Ten years ago, he started from a mental block and within a decade he has grown to love writing.
“I almost feel a bit empty inside if I don’t write every day.”
His secret weapon:
“The fact that today I can write is (at least for me) the absolute proof that all you need in order to achieve excellence is to practice. Repetition.”
Do you think it’s even possible for you to take on the commitment of daily writing?
I’ve been writing on the internet for 3.5 years now - almost every day.
My goal is to continue writing daily, although I often have to take a break due to my mommy duties, work, sickness, (pregnancies), you name it.
However, I have some techniques that help me to keep going and seem to be “all in” when life gets in the way, like today.
No kindergarten for my son.
A baby who won't sleep.
So here I am now inviting you to our LIVE session in about two hours at 1:00pm EST
Replay will be available for course, because I know life is busy.
